GTI to Host Global Unconventional Gas 2010 Conference

01/21/10 Des Plaines, IL

Gas Technology Institute (GTI) announces Global Unconventional Gas 2010: Unlocking Your Potential, a conference being organized and co-sponsored with the International Gas Union (IGU), Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA) and other leading energy organizations. This premier international conference and workshop is designed to further the worldwide development of gas shale and unconventional resources and transfer knowledge and best practices gained in the U.S. to the rest of the world. The conference will be held at the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel, The Netherlands from June 15-17, 2010.

Unconventional gas provides abundant, affordable, and cleaner-burning energy to a world in need of stable energy prices, security, and solutions to the climate change challenge. Advances in technology have enabled these “new” resources to be developed economically in the United States — now supplying 40% of total U.S. production and expected to supply well over 50% by 2020. The transfer of knowledge combined with new technology and processes tailored to specific resource plays will be essential to developing unconventional gas in other countries around the world.

An evening reception on June 15 provides exploration and production (E&P) managers, engineers, geologists, investors, and policymakers an opportunity to meet and exchange views.

Day one will provide context on the role of unconventional gas in a sustainable global energy mix and the issues associated with resource development. Topics include “The Global Role of Natural Gas in a Carbon Constrained World,” What Unconventional Gas Means to Europe,” and interactive panel presentations on key U.S. and global plays.

Day two is focused on five technical sessions that will deliver state-of-the-art insights into unconventional gas resource development, reviewing current and developing technology with a focus on gas shales. Sessions include Resource and Geology, Well Stimulation and Hydraulic Fracturing, Reservoir Engineering, Water Usage and Regulatory Issues, and Well Completion and Ongoing Research.
